When building its newest headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, Amazon did not hold pack on creating a space full of unique works of art. Inviting artists from all over the world, every piece in the space needed to have a story and intention. From tech driven LED walls to traditional sculpture, the space is part office, part gallery. Scott worked with Indiewalls, the art consultant managing the account, to determine what was possible for a key placement in their showcase meeting room. Once the theme of the flaura and fauna was of the Potomac was established, Gabriel Schama went to work on creating one of his most spectacular artworks to date.
The result is to sculptures embedded in the wall, each over 15 feet wide, that face each other in the meeting space. What makes this artwork special is that it is set back from the drywall giving the illusion that it is carved out of the wall. Achieving this required precision engineering a lot of skilled craftsmanship from Gabriel, Scott and the entire installation team. The densely layered wood sculpture was custom matched to compliment other wood finishes in the space, making a feel a part of the room.
